Vein Definitions

Vein
Veins generally function to return deoxygenated blood to the heart. Veins are blood vessels that carry blood towards the heart. Most veins carry deoxygenated blood from the tissues back to the lungs, excluding pulmonary and umbilical veins, which carry oxygenated blood. Veins are different than arteries, Arteries being more muscular than veins and carrying blood away from the heart. Vein treatments and surgeries are for blood vessels disorders. Some are life threatening involving the heart. Others disorders, such as varicose veins are treated by vascular physicians.
